Our Campaign

Main Aim

To ensure that materials collected for recycling in Northern Ireland are turned into new products by local companies to benefit our local circular economy and the environment.

Objectives

  • We will work with Councils to adopt recycling collections that produce high quality materials suitable for remanufacture into new high-end products by Northern Irish companies.
  • We will encourage Government to adopt policies that incentivise local reprocessing rather than the export of recyclables, and that will result in the best carbon reduction and environmental outcomes possible.
  • We will ask DAERA to mandate the collection of recyclables in three separate streams –
    • Paper & Cardboard
    • Glass
    • Other (plastics, cans, foil and cartons).
  • We are ambitious about recycling and want to support Northern Ireland to achieve the highest recycling rates in the UK.
  • We want the public to be fully engaged and understand what happens to their recyclables and why it’s important to use the services provided.
  • We want recycling collections to be simple to use and consistent across Northern Ireland.
